Leaving home, coming home

Today I’m leaving from my idyllic home in Corner Brook to go back to my hometown of Halifax, Nova-Scotia. The reason for this move was primarily a business one, It’s time for me to work as a professional photographer and the prospects are greater in Halifax than Corner Brook. The road won’t be easy, but nothing easy is worth doing.

What does this mean for the blog? It means more of these posts are going to be focused on professional photos rather than my previous posts, which were dominated by my artistic work. I’m still an artist for life, and I’m still going to focus on my street photography on all my social media platforms (especially Instagram). But here on my website and on my Facebook page the overall content will be predominately professional work.

Me and my parents took the ferry over to Nova-Scotia so that we could transport more stuff. As we were about to leave the dock I was thinking about all of my friends in Newfoundland and all of the great experiences I had. But mostly I was thinking about how I’m leaving the structure of a 9-5 job and now need to push my own back to find work. As the ferry took off the waves were horribly nauseating, and the horizon was constantly covered in mist. I went into the cabin to lie down, and when I woke up the motion was bearable. I think about that quote from Nietzsche that goes “The secret of life is to live dangerously.” But mostly I just sit at the table and write down my plans to find clients. This isn’t some kind of grand adventure like climbing a mountain, it’s more like a subtle shift in attitude and an acceptance of the unknown.
