Halifax Waterfront glass sculpture detail

I made this image during 2022’s Nocturne, where I was hanging around with some friends taking in the different public art exhibits. This new glass sculpture was one of the cooler things to check out and see up close. I find I’m always making my best images when I’m with my friends, and the camera just happens to come along. Sharing things together is why we came out, not because of photography. But then being able to record what we do and look back on it is part of what makes photography so much fun.

I think photography is one of of the best ways to share joy and kindness to the people and the world around me. When I look at my photograph I think about how cool it was that this sculpture was made, and how we get to enjoy it. I hope the photograph can convey a sense of what it was like to stick my face right there during the cold but comfortable winter night and enjoy the little panels going up and down and reflecting the different lights. Of course it’s cheating to say what isn’t in the photograph, but I’m also reminded of spending the night with my friends and experiencing the sculpture with them.

Right now I want to focus on using photography to spread more joy and kindness to the people around me.
